Six Mile Road

  • The Custer Beacon (map)

Six Mile Road began when Jake Jackson (guitar, vocals, fiddle), Trappor Mason (banjo), and Dan Cross (mandolin, vocals) met in the winter of 1998 through a mutual friend. They knew something good came together, but needed a few more players. Soon after they found a fiddle player (Kester Erickson) and a bass player (Dave Curington). They had their first jams at a cabin Trappor was living in up in Spearfish Canyon, SD.

SMR has had some line up changes over the years with Emilee Mason on bass, Zach Lawson on guitar, and most recently the addition of Mike Brennen on Bass. All of the past members of SMR remain very good friends and will still sit in on occasion for a good jam. But despite these changes the band continues to move forward with a love bluegrass and Americana music.

Six Mile Road has opened for national and regional acts including the Gibson Brothers, Jalan Crossland and the Travelin' McCoury's. They have also shared the festival stage with bands such Bull Harmon and Bull's Eye and the Special Consensus. SMR continues to be a local bluegrass favorite entertaining hundreds of audiences over the years.
